Purple everywhere in Grafton

Purple purple dropping flowers it's the end of the Jacaranda Festival at Grafton...

Reminiscence of Freo, where in my last week that same purple coloured the town in dresses & streamers celebrating the purple uniform of the Freemantle Dockers who played in the grand finale! Sadly lost like our Wallaby's against England!

Cold & wet there... Hot & dry here!

Finalist Hawkesbury Art Prize

It is very exciting to be one of 40 finalists in the Hawkesbury Art Prize with my work 'Thinking'. It's about...

A small tributary off the mighty Clarence River meanders inland to an unknown & secret place, where lit by dappled sunlight perches a painted kingfisher & a female form,  pondering the meaning of life, the body, art & nature.

Her collaged form draws attention to the materiality of the body & our perceptions of reality.  She pokes fun at my desire to represent the lived moment, as her reconstituted form interrupts the 'real' of photographic scenery.

Instead she muses on the beauty & intensity of light & it's warmth on her skin & her connection if only briefly, with the beauty of the kingfisher & nature's glen....

My studio is in here!!

My studio is in this amazing though troubled historical old building! It was built for the 'insane' this constituted anyone who was considered annoying by the rulers of the day 19thc. Natural place to set up artists!!

No stress here can research make art & this weekend opening of the Freemantle Print Prize! Looking forward to seeing who & what got in this year!

Adventures in Freo

My beautiful apartment in heart of Freemantle, WA has flooded!! Down in the cellar/ laundry of the old Moore's building... I took lots of photos because in a very uncanny way my next body of work is titled 'Flooding the House'.

Slightly displaced & out of place with Freo displaying a contingent of doctors rather than one gale force wind called The Doctor , I am heading back up to the previous named Freemantle Lunatic Asylum where my studio is based.

Fun Collagraph Workshop

I just had a lovely weekend teaching with several talented women how to make collagraphs at my Play with Texture & Collage & Print Workshop along the banks of the mighty Clarence River.  The weather held out and the sun shined and the river and birdlife gave the workshop added joy!!

Trish using fabrics, beautiful gum leaves from her property and glues.

Mary and Trish discussing the different effects with various materials.

Suzie is a textile artist who revelled in the textures of snake skin and fabric for her collagraphs.

Evey works with glass and took to print like a dream!
